A modern tribute to the classic Fallout

When it comes to CRPGs, no other title excites as much adoration and respect as Fallout. No other game has come close to the desolate atmosphere that Fallout has as well as amazing gameplay mechanics. Nevertheless, many a game still try every year, and ATOM RPG is another game that tries to be Fallout’s successor. ATOM RPG is set in a post-apocalyptic world after a nuclear Holocaust. You must survive in this harsh new world by exploring the wasteland left by the nuclear fallout.

Premise and Backstory

Back in the 1960s and 70s, tensions were high due to the impending doom brought on by the possibility of nuclear warfare. Although we know now that the nuclear warfare that we feared will never come to pass, ATOM RPG presents a world where it did. In ATOM RPG, the Soviet Union and the Western European powers both tried to destroy each other with their nuclear warheads and this resulted in a barren wasteland. Now, you have to explore this wasteland, meeting new people and finding new equipment in the process.

Gameplay and Graphics

There’s a lot of exploring involved in the game, and like many exploration and survival games, you have to interact with your environment to find useful things to add to your inventory. As you progress, you’ll also be able to level up skills and abilities to make certain tasks easier. ATOM RPG also has combat, although unlike most post-apocalyptic games, ATOM RPG’s combat is turn-based rather than real time.

One massive difference ATOM RPG has from other survival games is that it’s very story driven. Be prepared to slog through a lot of conversations with NPCs to progress through the game. There’s also a great overarching plot that you’ll get to discover as you continue to play.

The graphics are pretty good. In terms of aesthetic, it definitely captures the dark and gloomy atmosphere you’d come to expect from a world that has been destroyed by nuclear warfare. There’s a lot of washed-out colors, and you shouldn’t expect any happy, bright colors.

A Great Tribute to Fallout

If you are a fan of the Fallout games, ATOM RPG is a great game that will ignite your nostalgic feelings for the franchise. It is set in a rich wasteland, as ironic as that may sound. Get to meet new people in this desolate place, enhance your skills, and discover a dark conspiracy. It’s an amazing look back at some of the best post-apocalyptic games in the industry.
